We all start our first Hot Yoga class as beginners.

You've read about the benefits of hot yoga, heard about it from a friend, or maybe you've tried other types of yoga and are curious to try a hot class. When you do something for the first time you don't always know what to expect and it can be intimidating. That's where Beginner Hot Yoga comes in. You'll learn everything you need from how to pick a yoga studio, to what to pack for your first class, to where to position your mat in the yoga room. And if you still have questions, you can just ask us! Our goal is to arm you with everything you need to have an amazing first hot yoga experience!

First, what is Hot Yoga? Is it right for me?
There are different types of hot yoga but the most widely recognized is probably Bikram yoga. A studio needs to follow a specific method of instruction and purchase the right to use the Bikram name. The benefit is that you know what to expect each class, the draw back (depending on your preference) is that each class is the same. Note that many other non-Bikram certified studios will still follow an almost identical series of poses, just ask. There are other popular styles such as Moksha Yoga, and with the rising popularity of yoga everywhere you can probably find lots of different hot yoga studios to try.

Common Questions & Objections:

  • Is Hot Yoga too hot? It takes some getting used to but if you've ever been in a sauna you can do hot yoga.
  • What if I'm not flexible? Not everyone in the class is either. The journey is what's important more than the result. You get all the benefits simply by trying, and you'll end up more flexible too.
  • What if I don't have the patience for yoga? That's exactly why you should try hot yoga.
  • What if I prefer a real workout? You'll sweat, I promise.
  • Does it smell? It can, when choosing a hot yoga studio ask about cleaning and incense.
  • Is it safe? Like with any sport there is a risk of injury so take it slow and make sure to prepare before your first yoga class. We can't offer medical advice so please check with your doctor if you have questions.
